Dear and Faithful Members of Calvary Lutheran,
It is sad that in this time of trial we are unable to hold services for Holy Week. But we can walk to the journey of Holy Week together in thought and prayer.
More than a remembering, the experience of Holy Week and Easter actually offers the greatest gifts of God—life and salvation—to the faithful who re-live these saving events.
Palms will be available on Sunday morning along with the Celebrate Insert. We do have palm branches. They will be placed in containers outside of church. Just stop by and take a palm branch to remind you of our Holy Week Journey. Come to the South parking lot (near Church office) and pick up a palm from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. Dale Waterhouse will be on site, but you will collect your own palm. Celebrate Inserts will also be available.
Easter Sunday we are trying to do a live-stream of an abbreviated service. Dale on trumpet, Joann on organ, Alan Bahr doing the readings, and Dale will deliver the message.
Images and Words for Holy Week: Holy Week: the events of this one week, from Palm Sunday (this Sunday) through the Saturday Easter Vigil, culminate in Easter, the center and turning point of the whole Church Year.
Palm branch: an ancient symbol of victory used by the disciples as Jesus entered into Jerusalem. On Palm or Passion Sunday we carry palm branches into the Sunday Service.
Triduum: a Latin term for the three days from Maundy Thursday to Easter around which the whole Church Year turns.
Maundy Thursday: The menu at Jesus’ last Passover meal (last supper) on Maundy Thursday included unleavened bread and wine, which he presented to his disciples as his body and his blood in the new covenant, the day of the “new commandment” to love and serve one another, and we hear Jesus speak of his death as his glorification
Good Friday: The darkened church has been stripped bare of its colorful decorations, its cross shrouded in the color of black, until the end of Holy Week and the first Easter service
Prayers: We ask that you also include the following people in your prayers. Lucille Van Ooyen, Joleen Davison, Kattie Conant, Everlyn Walrath, Jack young, Travis Hupf, Julie Langseth, Paul Bruss, and Diane Johnston. We offer prayer of sympathy to the family and friends of Bruce Bowers (Washburn WI). Bruce was a friend of Karen Traut's and well a respected musician from the Bayfield area.
